Past Tense
Spanish has two past tenses, the pretérito and the imperfecto. The pretérito typically is used for one-time or completed. actions. For example:
Fui al mercado. ("I went to the market")
uses the pretérito. In contrast, the imperfecto is used for repeated or unresolved actions. For example:
Cuando yo era niño, no quería cepillarme los dientes. ("When I was a child, I didn't want to brush my teeth")
